Certificate III in Carpentry

The course runs for 52 weeks, including 48 study weeks and 4 weeks of holidays. Students are expected to complete 20 hours a week in the classroom and an additional 4 hours of structured self-study per week.

The course is delivered face-to-face in a classroom-based setting, through structured self-study, and through workplace-based training including carpentry workshops and live construction sites. It is available at the Melbourne Campus (L10/601 Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000), Hobart Campus (212A Liverpool Street, Hobart TAS 7000), Abbotsford Campus (395-397 Victoria St, Abbotsford, Victoria 3067), and Broadmeadows Campus (61 Riggall St, Broadmeadows, Victoria 3047).

International students must have an IELTS score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through being educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country, completing at least 6 months of a Certificate IV level course in an Australian RTO, or successful completion of an English Placement Test. Other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can also be accepted, provided results are equivalent to IELTS 6.0.

Assessments for this course may include written questions, projects, presentations, reports, role plays/observations, portfolios/journals, and on-site assessments. At the commencement of each unit, your trainer and assessor will outline the specific assessment tasks that you are required to complete.

Potential employment options are in the carpentry sector in roles such as carpenter, builder, or foreman in residential or commercial construction. Occupational titles may include Carpenter – Commercial, Carpenter – Formwork, and Carpenter – Residential. Further education pathways may include the CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building).
