Certificate III in Carpentry

The Certificate III in Carpentry (CPC30220) is a trade qualification for carpenters in residential and commercial workplaces, covering setting out, manufacturing, constructing, assembling, installing and repairing products made using timber and non-timber materials. Occupational titles may include Carpenter – Commercial, Carpenter – Formwork and Carpenter – Residential. Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements vary between states and territories.

A total of 34 units (27 core and 7 electives) must be completed, covering measurements and calculations, reading plans and specifications, setting out, wall and ceiling framing, roof trusses and pitched roofs, flooring systems, eaves, exterior cladding, external stairs, windows and doors, lining and panelling, formwork, general demolition, and construction work health and safety.

Delivered face-to-face (classroom based) over 52 weeks — 48 study weeks plus 4 weeks of holidays, 20 hours per week in the classroom plus an estimated 5 hours per week of self-study — at Darwin Institute of Trade (DIT, RTO 41128, CRICOS 03609J)'s Parramatta NSW and North Melbourne VIC campuses. Graduates may progress to CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building), CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building), or another Certificate IV/Diploma-level qualification within the CPC Training Package. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available to all students upon enrolment, and is particularly recommended for applicants who have worked in a relevant job role for at least 2 years.
