Common Questions
The tuition fee for the SIT30821 Certificate III in Commercial Cookery is $10,800 (AUD), with an additional material fee of $1,500 (AUD). Please note prices may vary if Credit Transfer is approved. Cookery students will also receive a quality uniform and kitchen set (including knives, etc.).
Students are required to complete 192 hours of supervised and approved work placement (Industry Placement) in a live approved restaurant during Term 4, which includes 48 shifts covering a combination of Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner services. In addition, PCBT will support students in finding work placements to complete 360 hours in Term 4 (168 hours more than required), provided students participate 38 hours per week during the 10-week term. Work placements are organised by PCBT College.
Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following: EAP Level 2 of English, IELTS score of 6.0 overall (General or Academic), TOEFL iBT score of 60–78, PTE Academic score of 52, Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) score of 169, or OET Pass Grade C. Applicants with an IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent from English-speaking (level 1) countries may take PCBT's English Language Placement test.
Students will participate in a real kitchen operation at PCBT's own Commercial Kitchen (fire and water), using all required kitchen equipment and tools including knives and sharp tools. All practical sessions are conducted in a fully equipped kitchen where trainees will have an opportunity to serve customers and receive feedback. In the final term, students complete 48 shifts in an approved commercial restaurant arranged by PCBT.
The course is available with intakes in February, April, July, and October. It is delivered over 52 weeks comprising 4 ten-week terms and 12 weeks of holidays. Classes are scheduled for 20 hours per week (face-to-face study), two days per week plus 4 hours of scheduled study.
