The program runs for a total of 65 calendar weeks, which includes 50 academic weeks and 15 weeks of term breaks (5 breaks of 3 weeks each). The course delivers over 20 hours of full-time study per week, totalling 1,000 face-to-face hours.
Yes. In order to successfully complete the course and to be awarded with the Certificate, students must complete a period of work placement to demonstrate their ability to perform to the required standard in the workplace. Work placement for this course will be up to 400 hours.
All international students must be able to demonstrate an IELTS 6.0 level of English language or equivalent. They must also have completed their education to a level which is equivalent to an Australian Senior High School, College or University Course.
Graduates may work as a Chef, Chef de Partie, Cook, Production Cook, or Line Cook in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs, cafes, and coffee shops.
After achieving the SIT30821 Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, students may undertake further study to SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management or other Hospitality / Cookery Qualifications.
