Common Questions
This qualification is expected to be completed in 52 weeks. This includes 40 weeks of face-to-face training and assessment spread over 4 terms of 10 weeks each and 12 weeks of term breaks (cumulative). Students will also need to complete 200 hours of Work Based Training (WBT) concurrently in terms 3 and 4, and there are no additional fees for this work placement.
The course fees are: Tuition Fee of $14,375, an Enrolment Fee of $250, and a Material Fee of $2,060. Students should also be aware that a kitchen toolkit (including a chef's uniform, safety shoes, various knives and small equipment) is required; students may arrange this themselves or Hilton Academy can provide a toolkit for an additional cost.
International applicants must provide evidence of completion of the IELTS Test (Academic or General) with an overall band score of 6, or an equivalent test result (such as TOEFL iBT total of 67, Pearson Test of English Academic overall band score of 47, or others as listed), completed within 2 years from the application date. Alternatively, completion of IELTS band 5.5 with 10 weeks of ELICOS, or IELTS band 5.0 with 20 weeks of ELICOS is accepted. Some students are exempt from these requirements, such as those who are citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand or the Republic of Ireland, or those who have completed a minimum of five years of study in English in qualifying countries.
The program is delivered face-to-face at Hilton Academy's campus at Level 1-2, 301-311 Flinders Ln, Melbourne VIC 3000, with practical training conducted in a commercial training kitchen at Unit 4, 60 Stubbs St, Kensington VIC 3031. Hilton Academy boasts state-of-the-art facilities equipped with modern kitchen equipment and resources, providing students with an immersive learning environment with access to industry-standard kitchens and experienced instructors.
Students who complete the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (SIT30821) may wish to continue their education into a range of Certificate IV qualifications, such as the SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management. Graduates can pursue employment as a commercial cook in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops.
