The full fee for domestic students is $6,000. Government subsidised fees are available: Regional VIC delivery – $150 and Melbourne Metropolitan delivery – $3,100. Concession fees are Regional VIC delivery: $30 and Melbourne Metropolitan delivery: $620. Textbooks and MCIE T-Shirt are an additional $190. This program is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth government funding to eligible candidates, and eligibility criteria applies.
This course requires 160 hours of work placement. Candidates may be asked to provide evidence of a National Police Check, Working with Children Check, and Flu and COVID-19 vaccinations for work placement, as requirements vary according to host employer policies.
Assessment for this program includes written tasks, long and short answer questions, multiple choice quizzes, group tasks, oral presentations, role plays, scenarios, case studies, work placement journals, logbooks, portfolios and projects. Most assessments are delivered online via the Canvas LMS. MCIE recommends that students have access to a laptop or tablet to submit their assessments.
Yes, both Credit Transfer (CT) and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) are available. Credit Transfer is free of charge. RPL application fees are $145 per hour. Please refer to the Domestic Student Handbook or MCIE's website for more information on RPL fees, terms and conditions.
Graduates may work as a Childcare Worker, Family Day Carer, Child Carer, Childcare Assistant, Early Childhood Educator, Nanny, Playgroup Supervisor, or Out of School Hours (OOSH) Care Educator. According to the Victorian Skills Authority, there were 31,021 Child Carers employed in Victoria in 2022, with 2,734 workers required by 2025. The National Skills Commission indicates there are currently 136,100 Child Carers employed in Australia, with future growth for this role at nearly 6%, and average weekly earnings of around $1,059.
