To enter this qualification, applicants must meet one of the following English language requirements: IELTS (Academic) overall score of 6.0; TOEFL IBT 60; Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 169; or PTE Academic 46 or equivalent. English language competence can also be demonstrated through a minimum of five years of study in English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Britain, America, South America or Ireland, or completion of a recognised ELICOS program at upper intermediate level or equivalent.
The course runs for 52 weeks in total, comprising 40 weeks of training and assessment and 12 weeks of holidays. The course is divided into 4 terms of 10 weeks each, with intakes available in January, April, July, and October 2024.
The course is delivered face to face in the classroom at two campuses: Parkville, Melbourne (48 Flemington Road, Parkville VIC 3052) and Pyrmont, Sydney.
Although the Certificate III is not an entry requirement of the Diploma, students have the option to complete the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50121) after completion of their Certificate III. Students may also go on to study other related higher-level qualifications such as the Diploma of Community Services (CHC52015). In terms of employment, graduates may work as early childhood educators, family day care workers, childhood educator assistants, playgroup supervisors, nannies, or outside school hours care assistants, among other roles.
Yes, the course includes a work placement program. When on placement, students must be able to work within a team and autonomously with the ability to show initiative under the supervision of a room leader. Students studying towards the Certificate III will also be required to work within a group as well as individually throughout their studies.
