To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of at least 160 hours of work in a regulated children's education and care service in Australia. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

International students must meet an English language requirement of IELTS 6.0 or PTE 52 or equivalent to be eligible for this course.
Assessment methods may include written questions, case studies, role plays, projects, presentations, and workplace projects.
The course has four intake periods per year: January, April, July, and October. The duration is 65 weeks full time, which includes scheduled breaks. International students must attend classes for 20 hours a week and are also expected to complete a certain amount of independent study each week.
