Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care

WMIT's CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is a nationally recognised Australian vocational qualification that reflects the role of educators working in regulated children's education and care services. Graduates are equipped to support children's wellbeing, development and learning within an approved learning framework, as prescribed by ACECQA (the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority). Educators apply well-developed skills and professional knowledge, exercising sound discretion and judgement, and may work independently or under the guidance of a senior educator. The course is delivered face-to-face at WMIT's Melbourne CBD campus over 54 weeks and is CRICOS-registered under code 114143D.

Across 17 units of competency (15 core and 2 electives), students are prepared to work across long-day care centres, family day care, pre-schools and kindergartens, and outside school hours care (OSHC) services. A supervised practical placement is embedded in the course structure alongside classroom-based training.

Graduates can move into roles such as Early Childhood Educator, Family Day Care Educator, Playgroup Supervisor, and Outside School Hours Care and Vacation Care Worker, in an industry facing a significant projected shortage of qualified educators. On completion, students may progress to WMIT's own Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care or an equivalent Diploma-level qualification.
