To achieve this qualification, students must complete a total of at least 162 hours of work in a regulated children's education and care service in Australia. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.
The course duration is 52 weeks, which includes 162 hours of work placement in a regulated children's education and care service in Australia.
Graduates may work in roles such as Early Childhood Educator, Assistant Room Leader, Playgroup Supervisor, Outside of School Care Assistant, Family Day Care Educator, or Recreation Assistant, working in settings such as long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergartens.
No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication. However, under the Education and Care Services National Law (2011), the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) publishes lists of approved early childhood education and care qualifications and information regarding regulatory requirements at www.acecqa.gov.au.
Students who achieve a 'Competent' result in all required units of study will be awarded the certificate for the qualification. A statement of attainment will be issued for any units in which the student has been assessed as 'Competent.'
