This qualification covers competencies to select, install, set up, test, fault find, repair and maintain electronic equipment and devices at component/sub-assembly level with options in communications, audio, video and TV, personal computer and networks, security and custom installations.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Students must be above 18 years of age while filling up the application form.
Applicants should have successfully completed year 12 or secondary studies in applicant's home country equivalent to Australian senior secondary school examination.
Mature Age students will also be considered without the minimum education requirements considering they have relevant work experience within the chosen area of study and a demonstrated capacity to meet the course requirements. A minimum of 2 years' experience would normally be expected; however, each case will be reviewed individually with relevant work experience evidence in the form of an employment reference letter on company letterhead, work samples and curriculum vitae submitted will be considered.
International students require a minimum IELTS (General) test score of 6.0 or equivalent for direct entry into a VET course; or IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 10 weeks); or IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 20 weeks). Results older than two years are not acceptable.
Alternatively, an Oxford Placement test with score of 61 or higher is accepted (equivalent to IELTS 5.5).
Evidence that the applicant has studied in English for at least five years in the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa or the Republic of Ireland is also accepted.
Citizens holding a valid passport from the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland are exempt from English language requirements.
Evidence that, within two years of their signed written agreement date, the applicant has successfully completed in Australia a foundation course or a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or a substantial part of a Certificate IV or higher-level qualification from the Australian Qualifications Framework.
All prospective students are required to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills assessment prior to enrolment, demonstrating skills at ACSF Level 3 (Performance Level).
Students must have basic computer skills.
Students must have access to a laptop or computer with Windows 7 operating system or higher, an active email address, and access to MS Office applications such as Microsoft Word.

The total course fee is $35,500, comprising a Tuition Fee of $30,000 AUD and a Non-Tuition Fee of $5,500 AUD.

Where are the theory and practical classes held for this course?

Theory classes are held face-to-face at Level 5, 123 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, Victoria 3000, while practical learning takes place at the Institute's industrial environment, the Technical Electronics Centre, located at 17 David St, Brunswick, Victoria 3056.

What equipment will be provided for practical learning in the Electronics course?

TEDI will provide access to equipment including, but not limited to, a soldering iron, soldering wire, multimeter, cable stripper, screwdriver kit, and tongs. These are placed in the practical lab for students to use during practical learning.

What further study pathways are available after completing this qualification?

Successful completion of the Certificate III in Electronics and Communications may enable students to apply for the UEE41520 Certificate IV in Video and Audio Systems.

What English language test scores are required for international students to enrol?

International students require a minimum IELTS (General) score of 6.0 for direct entry, or 5.5 combined with at least 10 weeks of ELICOS, or 5.0 combined with at least 20 weeks of ELICOS. Equivalent scores from other accepted tests include TOEFL iBT 67, PTE Academic 47, Cambridge C1 Advanced 161, and CELPIP General overall band score of 7, among others. Results older than two years are not acceptable.
