Certificate III in Hairdressing

This qualification reflects the role of hairdressers who use a range of well-developed sales, consultation and technical skills and knowledge to provide a broad range of hairdressing services to clients. Graduates use discretion and judgement to provide client services and take responsibility for the outcomes of their own work.

The Certificate III in Hairdressing provides a pathway to work as a hairdresser in any industry environment, usually a salon. No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication, and it is also suitable as an Australian Apprenticeship pathway for domestic students.

Delivered on campus at The Centre of Excellence's Geelong campus, the course runs for 54 study weeks plus 5 weeks of holidays (59 weeks total), covering 28 units of competency across core and elective streams. Students build practical skills in shampoo and basin services, hair and scalp treatment, colouring and lightening, highlighting, haircut design and cutting techniques, chemical straightening and relaxing treatments, client consultation, and salon financial transactions, with electives allowing further specialisation in braiding, up-styling and visual merchandising.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available for skills and knowledge gained through previous study or relevant industry experience. There are no specific prerequisite requirements (NIL) for entry to this qualification.
