This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to understand and respond to instructions; to carry out routine tasks and communicate with a range of internal/external clients in a medical environment; as well as use appropriate medical terminology.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to organise own work schedules, to monitor and obtain feedback on work performance and to maintain required levels of competence.

Provide First Aid
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies. The unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

For TAFE at School students, the full fee is $1,085, and for international students, the total course fee is $7,600 (Cairns campus, 6 months).
Yes, students are required to undertake 80 hours of vocational placement in an approved setting as part of the successful achievement of this qualification.
TAFE Queensland's learning spaces include simulated clinical labs equipped with the latest in electric beds, ceiling and stand-alone hoists, hygiene chairs, and responsive PC-operated simulator mannequins. These working environments will prepare you for real-world situations while under the supervision of industry professionals.
The course is available at multiple campuses including Southport (Gold Coast), Sunshine Coast Health Institute, Toowoomba, Bundaberg, Cairns, and Townsville - Pimlico. Start dates vary by campus, with intakes available from 13 July 2026, 15 July 2026, 6 October 2026, and 28 January 2027.
Successful completion of this course will give you a qualification to work in a client care and support role often recognised as similar to that of an AIN. Possible job roles include Client Care, Services and Support Worker; Food Services Worker; Hospital Orderly; Care Attendant; Health Services Assistant; and Patient Support.
