Common Questions
This qualification will be delivered over 78 weeks including 70 weeks of training and assessment and 8 weeks of holidays. Note that supplementary classes will be scheduled, and attendance required, should additional classes be required to allow for classes missed as a result of public holidays, or other interruptions, and/or for students who require further training and/or reassessment or additional support.
Completion of 36 units is required for the award of this qualification, comprising 22 core units and 14 elective units. Of the 14 elective units, 1 unit must be from one of the Specialist Elective Groups A or B listed in the AUR31120 qualification, and of the remaining 13 units, up to 13 may be from the Specialist Elective Groups and/or the general elective units listed in the AUR31120 qualification, and up to 6 may be from a Certificate II qualification or above in the AUR Training Package or another endorsed Training Package or accredited course.
You must have completed an English language test within two (2) years of the application date. Minimum scores required include: IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 64, Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) 169, PTE Academic 50, or Occupational English Test B for each test component. Reduced scores may be accepted if you complete an ELICOS program of 10 or 20 weeks. Exemptions apply if you hold a passport from UK, USA, Canada, NZ, or the Republic of Ireland, among other conditions.
Units are assessed individually via a range of assessment methods: Written Assessment, Verbal Questioning and Practical Demonstrations observed directly by the assessor. Students can make an appeal against any assessment decision by following the Complaints and Appeals Policy outlined in the Student Handbook and the OCT website.
You will be provided with your own apprentice toolkit which you will be required to bring to all practical classes. You will also be provided with a uniform which must be worn for all workshop days. You must buy your own Safety Boots and bring them to each practical class. Textbooks are available in the library for you to read in your own time; however, you will be required to buy your own from McGraw Hill to ensure you always have access to the textbook.
