Common Questions
The course fee for international students is between $14,950 and $15,400 AUD. Additional costs for uniforms, equipment, textbooks and materials range from $300 to $1,000 AUD per course.
To achieve this qualification, you must demonstrate competency in 17 units of competency: 11 core units plus 6 elective units. Three elective units must be chosen from the electives listed, and the remaining 3 units can be selected from those electives or from any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course.
This qualification could help you prepare for roles such as Gardener, Horticulturist, Landscape Gardener, and Nursery Worker.
You will build practical experience in planting and pruning trees, shrubs and other plants; understanding soil characteristics and soil improvement methods; operating basic garden machinery and equipment; safely using chemicals to control pests and weeds; maintaining and operating irrigation systems; and identifying and controlling weeds, pests and diseases.
After completing the Certificate III in Horticulture, you can continue your studies through a TAFE NSW Horticulture study pathway including the Diploma of Landscape Design. TAFE NSW also has partnerships with a number of Australian universities that offer guaranteed entry and credit transfer to eligible students, and you may also gain entry to other universities using your TAFE NSW qualifications.
