The course runs for 52 weeks across two semesters. Semester 1 (21 weeks) is spent undertaking practical and theory tuition delivered on campus, with 21 hours per week of on-campus classes, utilising industry-standard equipment in ICAE's fully equipped training bar, restaurant areas, and commercial kitchen. Semester 2 (20 weeks) is spent entirely in the workplace undertaking Industry Placement (IP), with no on-campus classes during this period. There are also 11 weeks of holidays.
During Semester 1, international students have paid work rights of up to 40 hours per fortnight (14 days). During Semester 2 (Industry Placement), students can work up to 45 hours per week. During the 11 weeks of holidays, paid work rights are unlimited.
Yes, if you are offered employment for your Industry Placement, you will receive a minimum of AUD$17 per hour, and you can work for up to 45 hours per week.
Students must complete 21 units in total: 9 core units plus 12 elective units. The elective units consist of 1 unit from Group A, 8 units from Group B, and 3 units from Group B, Group C, elsewhere in the SIT Training Package, or any other current Training Package or accredited course. International students undertake elective units as prescribed by ICAE.
Graduates of the Certificate IV in Hospitality can pursue roles such as bar supervisor or team leader, concierge, duty manager, food and beverage supervisor or team leader, front office supervisor or team leader, housekeeping supervisor or team leader, gaming supervisor or team leader, and shift manager.
