The course duration is 78 weeks, which is made up of 50 contact weeks, 10 weeks of work placement, plus 18 weeks of holiday breaks.
Yes, students who are completing this course MUST undertake work placement of a minimum of thirty-six (36) complete service periods (shifts) in a hospitality establishment such as accommodation services, food and beverage, gaming operations and housekeeping, in various hospitality industry settings, including bars, hotels, cafes, restaurants, clubs, pubs and motels.
International students must demonstrate at least an upper-intermediate level of English proficiency, such as an IELTS score of 6.0 or an equivalent score from other recognised tests. Equivalent scores include TOEFL iBT: 60-78, Cambridge English Exams (B2 First FCE / C1 Advanced CAE): 169 or above on the Cambridge scale, PTE Academic: 52-58, or an English proficiency of upper intermediate level or above from any NEAS accredited ELICOS provider.
This qualification provides a pathway to work as a Front Desk Receptionist, Function Attendant, Function Host, Housekeeper, or Restaurant Waiting Staff in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops.
Students can progress to study SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management after successfully completing this qualification.
