Certificate III in Individual Support

The Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33021) is a nationally recognised vocational qualification offered by The Canberra Training School Pty. Ltd., trading as Canberra Business and Technology College (CBTC). It reflects the role of workers in community and/or residential settings who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or other reasons, using discretion and judgement while taking responsibility for their own work.

Training is delivered in a blended mode combining scheduled face-to-face classroom learning with online learning activities, and the course states a duration of up to 24 weeks (excluding holidays) domestically, with a CRICOS-registered duration of 52 weeks. It includes a mandatory work placement of 180 hours in an approved aged care services facility, alongside a minimum recommended weekly study commitment of 35–45 hours.

The qualification covers units of competency spanning individualised support, independence and wellbeing, communication in health or community services, working with diverse people, legal and ethical practice, and personal support needs, plus electives such as falls prevention and First Aid. It suits career changers and current support workers seeking formal recognition, providing a pathway into roles such as home care assistant, personal care giver, residential care worker and community care worker.
