Certificate III in Individual Support

CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) prepares students to work under supervision in community, home or residential care settings as part of a multi-disciplinary team, delivering person-centred support to people who need assistance due to ageing, disability or other circumstances. Across its 15 units of competency — 9 core plus 6 electives drawn from an ageing-focused stream (dementia support, working effectively in aged care, palliative-approach care) and a disability-focused stream (First Aid, supporting relationships with carers and family, identifying and reporting abuse) — students learn to provide individualised support, recognise healthy body systems, communicate in a health or community services setting, work with diverse people, apply infection control practices and follow safe work practices for direct client care. The 52-week, full-time program (20 hours per week) is delivered in a blended face-to-face and online format at the Parramatta campus and includes a mandatory 120-hour industry work placement in the aged care sector, for which students need a National Police Clearance and current immunisation records. Graduates can pursue roles such as Senior Personal Care Assistant, Care Assistant, Residential Support Worker, Community Care Worker or Disability Service Officer.
