Common Questions
You are required to complete a mandatory 120 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer. TAFE NSW will arrange your work placement with a suitable industry employer on your behalf.
You must successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 9 core units and 6 specialty units. TAFE NSW recognises previous study and work experience — you can apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL) or a credit transfer, which may allow you to gain your qualification faster.
During your study you will need to provide a National Police Check (NPC), an NDIS Worker Check (NDISWC), a Working with Children Check (WWCC), vaccinations which can include COVID, hepatitis A and B, and influenza, as well as any additional evidence your work placement provider requires.
Course fees range from $0 to $9,920 depending on your eligibility. Fee-free options are available as this training is subsidised by the NSW Government, with eligibility criteria applying. You can use the 'Estimate my fee' tool on the TAFE NSW website to check your individual costs.
Assessments include knowledge assessments (short answer and multiple choice), skills assessments (practical demonstrations), case study assessments (scenario-based written tasks), and work placement projects (research tasks related to client care, a log book, and a portfolio).

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
