The course runs for 34 weeks, which includes 4 weeks of holidays and 120 hours of mandatory work placement.
All students enrolled in this qualification are required to undertake work placement. Requirements include holding a Working with Children Certificate, a National Criminal Police Check, a First Aid Course certificate, and up to date immunisation including COVID19. Students must also be physically, mentally and emotionally healthy to respond appropriately to personal needs. AHSI will organise work placement opportunities for students and, where possible, in organisations located close to their address.
This qualification provides a pathway for students to continue their studies and enhance their skills through CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support or CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health.
International students require either an IELTS level of 5.5 or above with no band under 5.0, or TOEFL 62 (internet-based), or Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) 46, or Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) score of 162, or OET score of C for each test component.
This qualification consists of 15 units of competency, including 9 core units and 6 elective units. Core units cover areas such as infection prevention and control, person-centred support, working legally and ethically, and safe work practices, while elective units focus on aged care, disability support, dementia, and palliative care.
