About This Course

The CHC33021 – Certificate III in Individual Support prepares students to make a real difference in people's lives by providing personalised, person-centred care in community, home and residential settings for individuals who may need support due to ageing, disability or other circumstances. Delivered face-to-face at Victorian Skills College's Melbourne campus over 52 weeks (including a 6-week holiday break), the course develops the practical skills and knowledge to deliver quality care while respecting each person's individual needs and goals, working as part of a supportive care team. The program comprises 15 units (9 core and 6 elective) covering individualised support, communication in health and community services, infection prevention and control, and safe work practices for direct client care, with elective options such as dementia care, palliative care and supporting community participation. Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
Completion of Year 11 or secondary studies (or equivalent) in the applicant's home country.
A Pre-Training Review (PTR) is completed before enrolment to assess the applicant's competencies, English level and support needs.
A satisfactory National Police Check (NPC) is required for practical placement purposes.
Sound Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) skills, confirmed via an LLND test prior to course commencement (ACSF Level 3 required).
Basic computer literacy, assessed at Pre-Training Review.
Physical capacity for direct-care work, including close physical contact, manual handling (e.g. transferring, bed bathing) and extended time on one's feet; a current Influenza vaccination is required for work placement.
International students: a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent) for direct entry, or IELTS 5.5 with up to 10 weeks of ELICOS study beforehand, or IELTS 5.0 with up to 20 weeks of ELICOS study beforehand (test results must be less than 2 years old); equivalent alternatives include 5+ years of study in English in a recognised country, or a recent Australian foundation/Year 12/Certificate IV-or-higher qualification, or an Oxford English Placement Test score equivalent to IELTS 6.0.
