Certificate III in Information Technology

The Certificate III in Information Technology (ICT30120) at TasTAFE is a practical qualification for people who enjoy working with technology and solving problems and want to turn that interest into a career in the Information and Communications Technology industry. The course focuses on computer networking, server operations, security, programming, web development and hardware/software support. It is not an entry-level course — applicants are recommended to already possess basic computer skills such as storing workplace information and maintaining information systems. Students gain transferrable skills across three streams: in Technical Support they scan and remove malicious software, troubleshoot and repair ICT equipment and hardware, build client communication skills and document work using a live ICT ticketing system; in Networking and Server Operations they create, manage and troubleshoot networks, install and configure desktop and server operating systems, secure a small office or home office network and use virtualisation technology; and in Programming they apply programming techniques using Python, create simple programs and troubleshoot code.

Domestically the course is delivered at Alanvale and Campbell Street, full-time or part-time, online or on-site, and is available to apprentices and trainees, with tuition of $1,405 subsidised, $410 concession or $8,745 commercial. International students study for 26 weeks in Hobart at 20 hours per week with February and July intakes, at AUD $8,645. Graduates can seek employment supporting IT activities across technical support, network administration, web technologies and software application support, or progress to a TasTAFE Certificate IV qualification.
