About This Course

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a broad range of tasks on a variety of light vehicles in the automotive retail, service and repair industry. This course covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a broad range of mechanical work on light vehicles within the automotive service and repair sector.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Applicants must be minimum 18 years of age at the time of commencement
Successful completion of Australian Equivalent Year 12 qualification
IELTS score of 5.5 or PTE score of 42 or Certificate III in EAL or its equivalent
Students are required to demonstrate an adequate level of digital literacy to undertake this course, including the ability to perform basic computer operations, conduct internet searches, use common office software (such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation tools), and navigate a learning management system (LMS) to access learning materials and submit assessments
Have physical attributes suitable for working in the automotive industry that encompasses manual handling or equipment including lifting and carrying heavy objects within scope of safe working practices (i.e. removing and fitting engine electrical components and parts)
Applicant is required to complete the Pre-Training Review which assist our trainers to better understand each student's capabilities prior to training and enable all students to be matched to the right program for them
Applicants must complete the PAX LLN test. Applicants are expected to have an appropriate level of literacy and numeracy skills, which will be evaluated via a literacy and numeracy assessment during the application process

How long does the Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology take to complete?

The course comprises of 75 weeks, including holidays and term breaks. There are 6 Terms which include 60 Study Weeks and 15 Holiday weeks.

What are the English language requirements to enrol in this course?

Applicants must have an IELTS score of 5.5 or a PTE score of 42, or a Certificate III in EAL or its equivalent to be eligible for enrolment.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

Teaching is conducted in the classroom as well as in the Automotive Workshop when required to simulate a real work environment. The delivery includes face to face teaching, lectures, discussions, research, learning activities, group work and supervised practical sessions. Assessments comprise of written assignments and project works, case studies and practical demonstration.

What equipment or resources do I need for this course?

Students are required to have access to a PC or laptop, a reliable internet connection, a browser application (e.g. Google Chrome), a pair of headphones, access to Microsoft Office suite including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and access to Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. All students will have access to WIFI at PAX's campus, however access to computers is limited and on a first-in-first-served basis.
