Common Questions
This qualification will be delivered intensively over 78 weeks including 70 weeks of training and assessment and 8 weeks of holidays. Note that supplementary classes will be scheduled, and attendance required, should additional classes be required to allow for classes missed as a result of public holidays, or other interruptions, and/or for students who require further training and/or reassessment or additional support.
Completion of a total number of 36 units are required for the award of the AUR30620 – Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, comprising 20 core units and 16 elective units. All 16 elective units may be from the elective units listed in the AUR30620, or up to 6 units may be from a Certificate II qualification or above in AUR30620 or another endorsed Training Package or accredited course.
You must have completed an English language test within two (2) years of the application date. The minimum overall scores required are: IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 64, Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) 169, PTE Academic 50, or Occupational English Test with B for each test component. Lower scores may be accepted with completion of an ELICOS or Foundation Program of 10 or 20 weeks duration.
Students will be provided with an apprentice toolkit, which must be brought to all practical classes. Students will also be provided with a uniform, which must be worn for all workshop days. Students must purchase their own safety boots and bring them to every practical class. A timetable will be provided identifying the days for workshop-based training and assessment.
The required textbook is Automotive Mechanics, 10th or 11th Edition, by Ed May and Les Simpson. Textbooks are available in the library for reading, however students are required to purchase their own copy from McGraw Hill to ensure constant access.
