You will gain hands-on skills using hand tools and workshop equipment, which will allow you to remove and replace vehicle mechanical and electrical systems, strip down engines, boxes, steering and suspension. You will also learn to service, repair, and diagnose faults in motor vehicles weighing up to 4.5 tonnes, including light vehicle engines, transmissions, suspensions, steering, brakes and electrical systems and components.
The course runs for 78 weeks, including 12 weeks of scheduled breaks. Please refer to the Academic Calendar for specific dates of breaks.
Students must demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. Alternatively, applicants who hold a Year 12 or equivalent qualification, or a Certificate III or higher that has been assessed in English, may also satisfy this requirement.
Further training pathways from this qualification include the AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis and the AUR40620 Certificate IV in Automotive Electrical Technology.
This course is available at the Canberra campus only. It is delivered through a blended approach consisting of 15 hours of classroom-based or workshop-based learning and 5 hours of technology facilitated learning per week, which may include interactions through breakout groups, Zoom meetings, online chats, and team meetings.
