Certificate III in Painting and Decorating

The CPC30620 Certificate III in Painting and Decorating is a trade qualification for residential and commercial painting and decorating work. Alongside core units covering safety, planning, measurement and communication skills common to the construction industry, students specialise in two key painting and decorating work areas, learning to prepare surfaces, apply paint by brush, roller and spray, match colours, apply texture and decorative finishes, hang and remove wallpaper, and safely handle hazardous surface coatings such as lead paint and non-friable asbestos. Because the trade requires hands-on proficiency, all units of competency are delivered in a real or closely simulated workplace environment rather than purely in the classroom. The course also includes units on erecting trestle, plank and restricted-height scaffolding, operating elevated work platforms, and calculating construction costs, giving graduates a well-rounded skill set for on-site painting and decorating work. It is delivered at The Centre of Excellence's Adelaide and North Geelong campuses over 84 study weeks plus 12 weeks of holidays (96 weeks total), with new intakes accepted every month. On completion, graduates are equipped to work as qualified painters and decorators on residential and commercial construction sites, with pathways into property maintenance, renovation and specialised decorative finishing work.
