About This Course

This qualification provides a trade outcome in painting and decorating for residential and commercial construction work. Occupational titles may include: Painter and decorator. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as two specialist fields of work. The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context. Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCWHS2001 covers this requirement.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Students must complete a Pre-Training Review consisting of a self-assessment and series of questions relevant to identify the prospective student's current academic and professional skills and knowledge.
Students must complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) assessment test; students will be admitted only if their LLND test result is within the range provided.
Students must complete a Learning Style Assessment to determine how they learn, study and should be assessed.
Students are required to disclose any medical conditions upon enrolling; if a medical condition exists, a certificate of capacity from a Doctor clearing the student to participate in classes must be provided.
Students must successfully complete CPCCWHS2001 Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry prior to commencing any unit marked with an asterisk (*).
Students must successfully complete CPCCWHS2001 and CPCCCM2012 Work safely at heights prior to commencing CPCCCM3001 Operate elevated work platforms up to 11 metres.
Sunshine College of Management Pty Ltd will not enrol an eligible individual where the qualification is at an inappropriate level for that student.

Can I get credit for previous study or work experience?

Yes. Credit Transfer (CT) is available for previously completed units of competency where the unit codes identically match. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is also available; prior to commencement, a review of each student's previous education, training and work experience will be conducted to determine if existing competencies should be recognised. Students may directly apply for RPL or be identified during the pre-training review process.
