Certificate III in Painting and Decorating

The Certificate III in Painting and Decorating (CPC30620) provides a trade outcome in painting and decorating for residential and commercial construction work, with occupational titles including Painter and Decorator. It is suitable for an Australian Apprenticeship pathway. Licensing, legislative and regulatory or certification requirements differ between states and territories.

A total of 29 units (26 core and 3 electives) must be completed, covering handling and storing painting materials, using painting tools and equipment, surface preparation, applying paint by brush, roller and spray, texture coat and decorative finishes, colour matching, wallpaper removal and application, protective coating systems, working safely with lead-painted surfaces and non-friable asbestos, and construction work health and safety.

Delivered face-to-face (classroom based) over 52 weeks — 48 study weeks plus 4 weeks of holidays, 20 hours per week in the classroom plus an estimated 5 hours per week of self-study — at Darwin Institute of Trade (DIT, RTO 41128, CRICOS 03609J)'s Parramatta NSW and North Melbourne VIC campuses. Graduates may seek employment in supervisory or managerial roles depending on industry experience, and may progress to CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building), CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building), or another Certificate IV/Diploma-level qualification within the CPC Training Package. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available to all students upon enrolment, and is particularly recommended for applicants who have worked in a relevant job role for at least 2 years.
