About This Course

This qualification is designed to develop the practical and professional skills required for tradespeople working as painters and decorators within the building and construction industry. Occupational titles may include: Painter and Decorator, Commercial Painter, Residential Painter, Industrial Painter. The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or closely simulated workplace environment. This qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered with a strong focus on hands on training, industry standard tools, and worksite safety procedures. Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of unit CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement. Additional licensing, registration, or industry compliance requirements may vary between Australian states and territories. Learners and employers should consult relevant local authorities to ensure they meet specific regulations for professional practice.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age and have completed the equivalent of Year 12
Have an IELTS* score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old)
English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
- Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
- Completed at least 6 months of a Certificate IV level course in an Australian RTO; or
- Successful completion of an English Placement Test
Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. You are required to provide your results so that we can confirm they are equivalent to IELTS 6.0

What assessment methods are used in this course?

Assessments for this course may include written questions, practical projects and tasks, presentations, reports, role plays/observations, and portfolios/journals. At the beginning of each unit, your trainer and assessor will outline the assessment tasks that must be completed.

How much time per week is required for this course?

Students are required to attend 20 hours a week in the classroom and complete 4 hours of structured self-study. In addition, you will also need to complete approximately 5 hours of additional unsupervised study per week, which may include general reading, research, and preparation for assessments.

Can I apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer?

Yes, you can apply for recognition of existing qualifications or skills, knowledge and experience (credit transfer or recognition of prior learning) as per the information included in the International Student Handbook. If you are granted course credit, this will affect your course fees as well as the duration of your course. You will be advised in writing of changes to fees or course duration as a result of the credit and will also be issued with a new Confirmation of Enrolment.
