Certificate III in Painting and Decorating

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge required to work as a professional painter and decorator in residential and commercial construction. You will learn how to prepare surfaces, apply different types of paint and finishes, and use industry tools and equipment safely while following workplace standards. Key focus areas include surface preparation, paint application, specialized coatings, workplace safety and equipment handling. Across its 28 units of competency (25 core and 3 elective), students build practical, workplace-ready skills, covering areas such as erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding, work safely at heights, operate elevated work platforms up to 11 metres, calculate costs of construction work and work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry. The course runs over 104 weeks, including 80 study weeks and 24 weeks of holidays, delivered face-to-face in a classroom-based setting and Training Workshop, with training split between a Parramatta classroom and a dedicated training workshop. Graduates are prepared for roles such as Professional Painter and Decorator, Commercial Painting Contractor and Decorating Specialist.
