Common Questions
Applicants must be aged 16 or above, complete a Language Literacy & Numeracy Assessment assessed by the Language Studies Department, and meet one of the following academic requirements: completion of Certificate II in Horticulture or a related field, equivalent to Australian Year 10 general schooling, 2 years' work experience in a horticultural related field, or an interest in commencing a career in horticulture.
The course duration is 53 weeks and is offered on a full-time basis.
National (domestic) students can study via Classroom (Face-to-Face), Apprenticeship, VET in Schools, Online via Moodle, or Distance (for employed persons in the industry). International students are limited to Classroom face-to-face only, at 20 hours per week.
The Certificate III in Parks and Gardens is delivered at two campuses: Melbourne and Cairns.
Completion of sixteen (16) selected units is required. Topics covered include environmentally sustainable work practices, weed control, controlling plant pests and diseases, grassed area and landscape maintenance, operating machinery and equipment, soil preparation and improvement, specialist amenity pruning, plant establishment, pressurised irrigation systems, plant nutrition, work health and safety, chemical transport, storage and application, and providing information on plants and their culture.
