Common Questions
It is a compulsory requirement of the course to undertake 35 hours of practical placement at a pathology collection centre or hospital in Melbourne, and students must perform at least 20 'live bleeds' on patients and other students.
Due to the large number of practical sessions, this course is only suitable for students who can commit to 4 days a week of attendance for the duration of the course, with classes running from 9am to 3.30pm.
Tuition fees vary depending on eligibility: the concession fee is $820, the government subsidised fee is $4,100, and the non-subsidised fee is $7,050. When including the maximum annual amenities fee, total payable amounts are $1,000 (concession), $4,360 (subsidised), and $7,310 (non-subsidised). This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding.
Graduates may find employment as a pathology collector in the private and public health sector, including medical centres, hospitals and pathology collection centres. Many students find ongoing employment at the workplaces where they completed their placements. Further study pathways include laboratory assistant roles, nursing, paramedical studies and health sciences.
The course is delivered at the Preston campus and has three intake dates: February (commencing 2 February 2026, Monday to Thursday), April (commencing 21 April 2026, Tuesday to Friday), and July (commencing 20 July 2026, Monday to Thursday). Classes run from 9am to 3.30pm.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
