Students practise their newly acquired skills in a fully operational clinical skills laboratory equipped with the latest technology, providing real-world experience, guided by industry-experienced educators. Training is delivered over 16 weeks, combining face-to-face and blended learning with classroom instruction, simulated skills training, and industry-based clinical placement. Students attend three days per week at Holmesglen's Moorabbin campus, including one day of theory and two days of practical training in a simulated pathology and biotechnology environment, plus 10 hours of independent study weekly via Brightspace.

General Requirements

Domestic Students:

Applicants must be 18 years of age at course commencement and provide documented evidence of serology results for Hepatitis A, B, C and HIV prior to commencing the course.
Applicants must meet all clinical placement requirements, providing evidence of a valid national police record check, a valid Working with Children Check, and up-to-date immunisations including COVID-19 vaccinations.
Applicants should be able to interact, communicate and work in small teams, comprehend technical reading material (instrumentation manuals, standard operating procedures, safety data sheets), problem-solve, and apply basic digital literacy; a physical ability to stand for long periods and fine motor control are recommended.
A literacy and numeracy assessment and pre-training interview are required prior to enrolment.

International Students:

Applicants must have good passes at Year 12 or the overseas equivalent, English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0, and be at least 18 years of age at course commencement.
To comply with Australian Government pathology placement requirements, learners must provide serology evidence covering Hepatitis B surface antibodies, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis A, HIV, MMR, Varicella, Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis, Polio, Tuberculosis, COVID-19 (including booster) and Influenza, and must pass a national police records check prior to placement.
Eligible learners will typically be able to interact and work in small teams, comprehend technical reading material, problem-solve, and apply basic digital literacy.
