Due to the large number of practical sessions, this course is only suitable for students who can commit to 4 days a week of attendance for the duration of the course. Classes run from 9am to 3.30pm. For example, the February 2026 intake runs Monday to Thursday, and the April 2026 intake runs Tuesday to Friday.
It is a compulsory requirement of the course to undertake 35 hours of practical placement at a pathology collection centre or hospital in Melbourne, and to perform at least 20 'live bleeds' (blood collections on patients and other students). The course is not suitable for people who cannot perform blood collection.
Tuition fees vary depending on eligibility. The concession fee is $820, the government subsidised fee is $4,100, and the non-subsidised fee is $7,050. Including maximum annual amenities fees, the total payable ranges from $1,000 (concession) to $4,360 (government subsidised) to $7,310 (non-subsidised). This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding.
Assessment methods include questioning, practical demonstration, assignments/essays, role plays, simulation, and practical placement. It is a compulsory requirement to undertake 35 hours of practical placement and to perform at least 20 'live bleeds'.
No, this course is not available for international students. It is only available to local students, which includes Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, holders of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa, or New Zealand citizens.
