The course has a duration of 53 weeks. International students study via classroom face-to-face only at 20 hours per week, while national students have additional options including apprenticeship, VET in Schools, online via Moodle, and distance learning for those already employed in the industry.
To enrol, students must be aged 16 or above and complete a Language Literacy & Numeracy Assessment. Academically, applicants must have completed a Certificate II in Horticulture or a related field, or hold equivalent to Australian Year 10 general schooling, or have 2 years' work experience in a horticultural related field, or simply be interested in commencing a career in horticulture.
Completion of fifteen (15) selected units is required to achieve the AHC30624 Certificate III in Production Horticulture. These units cover areas such as controlling weeds and pests, operating machinery, implementing propagation plans, applying biosecurity measures, operating irrigation and fertigation systems, and establishing horticultural crops.
National students can study via Classroom (Face-to-Face), Apprenticeship, VET in Schools, Online through Moodle, or Distance learning (for employed persons in the industry). International students are limited to classroom face-to-face only at 20 hours per week.
Graduates of the Certificate III in Production Horticulture are recognised under ANZSCO 842218 as a Vegetable Farm Worker (AUS) or Market Garden Worker (NZ). The qualification prepares you for roles involving operating advanced and specialised machinery, coordinating crop planting and maintenance, harvesting and processing produce, installing irrigation and drainage, controlling weeds and pests, and constructing glasshouses and shade houses.
