Certificate III in Stonemasonry

The CPC32320 Certificate III in Stonemasonry is delivered by Bentley College in a classroom setting, 20 hours per week, over 52 weeks (44 study weeks plus 8 weeks of break). The course comprises 30 units of competency — 21 core and 9 elective — covering trade skills such as setting out, levelling procedures, erecting and dismantling scaffolding, working safely at heights, workplace communication, measurements and calculations, reading and interpreting plans and specifications, finishing and laying stone, identifying and using stone products, using stonemasonry tools, plant and equipment, dressing and moulding stone, shaping and splitting stone, machine stone processing, setting out and cutting letters in stone, and profile work, alongside workplace health and safety requirements. Electives extend into using construction tools and equipment, assembling and packaging components, computer-controlled static machinery, hand excavation, monument construction planning, cemetery monument fixing, gilding, and lead inlay work. The course suits learners entering the stonemasonry trade and requires proficiency with advanced calculators. Entry requires English proficiency at IELTS 6.0 or equivalent (or Upper Intermediate level English), suitable LLN skills, completion of Australian Year 10 or equivalent with mature age status, and a minimum age of 18. On completion, graduates are prepared for roles within construction related to stonemasonry, such as architectural, heritage or monumental stonemason, finisher and/or bench-top mason, and can progress into the CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building), CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building), or other Certificate IV and Diploma-level CPC qualifications.
