The Certificate III in Tourism at TasTAFE suits people with strong customer service skills and a keen interest in the tourism industry, developing their existing skills and equipping them to work in their chosen tourism field. TasTAFE currently delivers this qualification as SIT30125, which supersedes the earlier SIT30122 code. It is ideal for those seeking employment in the tourism industry, offering skills in both planning and coordinating tourism services as well as hands-on, customer-facing roles. Core units cover sourcing and using information on the tourism and travel industry, providing service to customers, showing social and cultural sensitivity and participating in safe work practices, while a very broad elective bank lets students tailor the qualification to their interests and employer requirements — covering tour guiding and commentary, specialised interpretive content on flora, fauna, landscape, cultural and heritage environments, travel product information and Australian destinations, computerised reservation and booking systems, customer quotations, visitor information, event support, accommodation and housekeeping services, food and beverage service, responsible service of alcohol and barista skills.

The course provides opportunities to engage with industry employers, connect with a supportive alumni network and experience Tasmania's tourism industry firsthand. It is delivered at Drysdale Launceston, Devonport and Drysdale Hobart, full-time or part-time, with tuition of $1,405 subsidised or $410 concession and Fee Free TAFE places available subject to eligibility. It is also available state-wide in the workplace for new and existing workers, where training combines on-the-job learning, workshops and self-paced study.
