Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling

This qualification provides a trade outcome in wall and floor tiling for residential and commercial construction work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, wall and floor tiling. Tilers work with materials like ceramic, glass, slate, marble and clay. They cut these materials and lay tiles on walls and floors, both interior and exterior. They may also add decorative touches to their basic work. The twenty units of competency take students from handling tiling materials and using tiling tools and equipment through to preparing surfaces for tiling application, installing floor tiles, wall tiles, decorative tiling and mosaic tiling, tiling curved surfaces, repairing wall and floor tiling and applying waterproofing for wall and floor tiling. Supporting units cover applying basic levelling procedures, reading and interpreting plans and specifications, carrying out measurements and calculations, planning and organising work, workplace communication, working safely at heights, operating elevated work platforms up to 11 metres, applying WHS requirements in the construction industry and investigating business opportunities for those intending to contract independently. The course is delivered over 52 weeks at York Business Institute's Sydney campus, combining face-to-face classes with online study at 20 hours per week. After achieving this qualification, candidates may undertake further studies in the related field, such as the Diploma of Building and Construction.
