Yes, the Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping (FNS40222) is listed as a Free TAFE course. The State Government's Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative covers the cost of tuition (excluding Amenities Fees and Materials Fees) for eligible students. Free TAFE places are limited and available for one course enrolment in a lifetime. You can call 1300 635 276 to check if Free TAFE places are still available.
You will learn both traditional manual accounting and computerised accounting through programs including Xero, BAS, Payroll and Excel. The course covers completing BAS statements, preparing financial reports and establishing a payroll system.
The course is offered as Full Time Day classes delivered over 6 months, where students are required to attend class face to face, or as Part Time Evening classes delivered over 12 months, where assessments are managed through Moodle. Students enrolled in the part-time evening option are still required to attend campus for supervised tests for the Tax Practitioners Board requirements for units FNSTPB411 and FNSTPB412. The course is delivered at the Collingwood Campus.
After completing the Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping FNS40222, you may articulate into the Diploma of Accounting FNS50222 and even onto the Bachelor of Accounting at Melbourne Polytechnic.
If you are not eligible for Free TAFE, the fees vary based on your circumstances. For a government subsidised fee, tuition is $3,800 plus a $360 materials fee and up to $260 amenities fee, totalling $4,420. For a non-subsidised enrolment, tuition is $6,950 plus a $360 materials fee and $260 amenities fee, totalling $7,570. Free TAFE eligible students pay $0 tuition, with a $360 materials fee and up to $260 amenities fee, totalling $620.
