The Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping (FNS40222) at TasTAFE is for number-crunchers looking to acquire bookkeeping skills to start work in the industry and become a registered member of one of the professional bookkeeping associations. Throughout the course, students develop their skills in preparing financial reports, processing financial transactions and extracting interim reports, and setting up and operating a computerised accounting system. They also learn to perform financial calculations, design and produce spreadsheets, complete business activity and instalment activity statements, establish and maintain payroll systems, prepare operational budgets, prepare financial statements for non-reporting entities, administer subsidiary accounts and ledgers, and work effectively in the accounting and bookkeeping industry. International students additionally learn to prepare and lodge business and instalment activity statements, deal with the Commissioner on behalf of a taxpayer, and introduce cloud computing into business operations.

Domestically the course is delivered online, full-time or part-time, and is also available as a traineeship, with tuition of $2,010 subsidised, $410 concession or $7,635 commercial, plus approximately $600 for prescribed textbooks. International students study for 26 weeks in Hobart at 20 hours per week with February and July intakes, at AUD $7,630, and the course can be taken as part of a package with the Certificate III in Accounts Administration and the Diploma of Accounting. Successful completion prepares graduates for employment as a BAS agent or contract bookkeeper, or in bookkeeping roles across a wide range of industries.
