Common Questions
Yes, you need to complete 120 hours (15 days) in a care service facility, such as an aged care home or home and community service. SGSCC also offers a simulated learning environment. Before commencing work placement, you will be required to obtain a current national criminal record check to allow you to work in a care service facility, and SGSCC will assist you with this application process.
No, this is a competency-based course. You will be required to competently complete assessment tasks for all 18 units of learning. Assessments are made up of a range of methods including question & answer, research report, case study, skill demonstration, and role play.
You will need to plan for approximately 5-8 hours a week at home to complete assessment tasks. Classes run on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9am to 4:30pm, and there is no training during school holidays.
This qualification is subsidised by the NSW Government. You can register to check your Smart & Skilled eligibility and student fee contribution by contacting the enrolments team on 02 8543 7412 during business hours or visiting the Jannali Office Reception (Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm).
When you have completed and been deemed competent, you can progress with SGSCC to the CHC42021 Certificate IV in Community Services or the CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services.
