Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work as beauty therapists to provide a range of beauty therapy treatments and services, including lash and brow treatments, nail services, make-up, massage and waxing. These practitioners communicate with clients to recommend treatments and services, and sell retail skin care and cosmetic products.

Beauty therapists at this level work independently with limited guidance, performing routine and non-routine activities and solving non-routine problems, applying and adapting technical skills and judgement while remaining responsible for their own outputs. Work is typically conducted in beauty salons and spas. The course is currently registered under the national code SHB40121.

Delivered on campus at The Centre of Excellence's Geelong campus, the course runs for 63 study weeks plus 7 weeks of holidays (70 weeks total), covering 19 units of competency across core and elective streams. Students build skills in beauty industry research, client consultation, cosmetic tanning, lash and brow services, waxing, manicure and pedicure, make-up design, body massage and treatments, and facial treatments, with electives in infection control, ear lobe piercing, eyelash extensions, make-up for photography and aromatherapy massage.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available for skills and knowledge gained through previous study or relevant industry experience. There are no specific prerequisite requirements (NIL) for entry.
