Certificate IV in Building and Construction

Become a professional builder or construction manager in the low-rise sector with TAFE SA's Certificate IV in Building and Construction, a nationally recognised qualification and core requirement, alongside trade experience, for South Australian Building Work Supervisor Registration. Entry requires completion of a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Assessment (LLND). Delivered part time at the Tonsley campus through a blend of classroom and online learning, the course covers building codes and standards, structural principles, legal requirements, site surveying and set-out, WHS management, waste minimisation, planning, and reading and interpreting plans and specifications. Students complete all 11 core units and choose 8 elective units, including cost estimating, contract administration, material scheduling, dispute resolution and energy-efficient building science. Students will need personal protective equipment, including hi-visibility clothing, a safety helmet, safety footwear, safety glasses and a metric tape measure. Concession, subsidised and full-fee rates apply depending on eligibility, and TAFE SA also offers this qualification to international students. Building Work Supervisors ensure building work meets required standards and must be registered and approved by Consumer and Business Services (CBS). Graduates are prepared for careers as builders or construction managers in South Australia's residential and low-rise construction sector.
