Certificate IV in Building and Construction

The Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) (CPC40120) is offered by The Canberra Training School Pty. Ltd. (trading as CBTC – Canberra Business and Technology College) and reflects the role of builders, site managers and managers of small to medium-sized building businesses. It prepares students to apply knowledge of structural principles, building codes, standards and legal requirements to Class 1 and 10 buildings (up to two storeys) and Class 2 to 9 Type C constructions, and to plan and supervise safe building and construction work, prepare and administer contracts, and apply quality principles to building projects. The course covers building codes and standards, work health and safety management, planning and supervising site work, reading and interpreting plans, preparing sketches and drawings, site surveys and set-out, and minimising site waste, with elective units in leadership, project quality management, contract administration, cost estimation and energy-efficient building practices. The course runs over 52 weeks in a blended delivery mode combining scheduled face-to-face classes with online learning activities, assessed through written assessment, projects, case studies and role plays, and requires a minimum of 35-45 hours weekly study commitment. The course is delivered across CBTC's Canberra (Braddon and Gungahlin) and Sydney (Bella Vista) campuses.
