Certificate IV in Building and Construction

Academic entry requirements: NSW Institute of Education and Training has the following entry requirements: All students must: be at least 18 years of age and have completed Year 12 or equivalent A general construction induction card (“white card”) is required to access construction sites. participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs.

Domestic Students must: Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills as tested through a language, literacy and numeracy assessment. Students will need to achieve ACSF level 3 for reading, writing, numeracy and oral communication to enter the course.

International Student must: be at least 18 years of age and have completed Year 12 or equivalent participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs. The course entry interview will also assess whether students can use digital technologies have an IELTS* score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following: Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or completed at least 6 months of a Certificate IV level course in an Australian RTO; or successful completion of an English Placement Test at IELTS level 6.0. Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 6.0.have an IELTS score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old).

Other Requirements: Students may also be accepted if they are of mature age and possess sufficient literacy, numeracy, visual and computer skills to successfully complete the course (LLN evaluation may be required for mature age students). Students are required to provide their own laptop computer that is compatible with Australian power voltage requirements. Sound computer skills are required that include using intermediate level Microsoft Word features. Ability to produce and present word-processed documents/ reports and undertake internet research. As part of the learning cycle students may be required to undertake online research or activities each week in class during term time.

Builder, Construction Supervisor, Site Manager, Site Supervisor, Leading Hand. Potential employment options are in building roles including residential and commercial with the following limitations: Residential construction limited to National Construction Code Class 1 and 10 buildings to a maximum of 3 storeys; Commercial construction limited to National Construction Code Class 2 to 9 buildings, Type C and B construction.
