Entry requires completion of a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Assessment (LLND). Delivered part time at the Tonsley campus through a blend of classroom and online learning, the course focuses on interpreting plans and specifications and preparing simple building sketches and drawings as its 2 core units, with students then choosing 13 elective units covering cost estimating, tender documentation, contract administration, material and labour scheduling, project risk management, building codes and standards, structural principles, and client requirements. Students will need personal protective equipment, including hi-visibility clothing, a safety helmet, safety footwear, safety glasses and a metric tape measure. Concession, subsidised and full-fee rates apply depending on eligibility, and TAFE SA also offers this qualification to international students. Graduates are prepared for office-based careers in the building and construction industry as building estimators or schedulers, working alongside builders and construction managers to cost, plan and document low-rise residential and commercial building projects across South Australia.
