Certificate IV in Building Project Support (Estimator)

The CPC40320 Certificate IV in Building Project Support (Estimator) at Orange College is designed to meet the needs of estimators, schedulers and contract administrators in the building and construction field, who may have responsibility for the preparation of estimates from predetermined rates, the processing of subcontractor claims, and the preparation of head and subcontracts for building and construction works. The qualification packaging enables two specialised occupational outcomes depending on the elective options selected — Certificate IV in Building Project Support (Estimator) or Certificate IV in Building Project Support (Contract Administrator). To achieve the qualification, candidates must demonstrate competency in 15 units — 2 core units and 13 electives — covering reading and interpreting plans and specifications, preparing simple building sketches and drawings, applying building codes and standards for Class 1 and 10 and Class 2 to 9 Type C buildings, applying structural principles, producing labour and material schedules, administering construction contracts, arranging building applications and approvals, identifying and producing estimated costs, preparing and evaluating tender documentation, selecting and procuring construction materials, minimising waste, planning building work, and applying project risk and quality management techniques.

The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment, and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in that context. Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for anyone carrying out construction work, and achievement of CPCWHS1001 meets this requirement. The course is offered to international students and delivered as full-time study over 40 weeks plus 10 weeks of breaks/holidays at the Port Melbourne campus, using a blended learning model of 70% face-to-face and 30% guided online learning; duration may vary based on mode of delivery and any recognition of prior learning or credit transfer.
