Certificate IV in Business

The Certificate IV in Business (BSB40120) reflects the role of individuals in a variety of Business Services job roles who may have supervisory performance accountabilities. These individuals carry out a mix of specialist and moderately complex administrative or operational tasks that require self-development skills, applying well-developed skills and a broad knowledge base to solve a defined range of unpredictable problems and analyse information from a variety of sources, and may provide leadership and guidance to others with some limited responsibility for the output of others.

Delivered by Inter-Continental Colleges Pty Ltd (trading as The Inter-Continental College of Business) at its Bankstown, NSW campus, the course is available to domestic students on a self-paced basis over up to 12 months via online/distance education and/or on-the-job training — subsidised by the NSW Government for eligible students — and to international students over 50 weeks (4 terms of 10 weeks each, including term breaks) at 20 hours per week face-to-face, with additional unsupervised study required to complete independent work.

Across its 12 units of competency — 6 core and 6 elective — students develop skills in critical thinking, digital collaboration, business relationship-building, WHS policy implementation, complex document and spreadsheet production, emotional intelligence, project work and meeting organisation. Assessment is by written reports, case studies, role plays and written assessments, with Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer available to eligible applicants. The qualification suits students who wish to work in a variety of businesses in supervisory positions or to further their career or promotional prospects.
