Certificate IV in Community Services

TAFE SA's Certificate IV in Community Services develops the skills and knowledge to design and deliver person-centred services to individuals and groups, including support, advocacy and interventions across a range of community service settings. Entry requires completion of a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Assessment (LLND), plus any Certificate III or higher, SACE completion, or equivalent; those with little background in the sector are encouraged to complete a Certificate III in Community Services first. Delivered over 12 months through online study combined with two compulsory on-campus workshops per week, students complete all 7 core units and choose 8 elective units covering areas such as mental health support, alcohol and other drugs work, crisis response, group facilitation, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural safety. An 80-hour vocational placement is required, along with a current Working with Children Check and, in some cases, a National Police Check and vaccination evidence. The course is offered full time at Elizabeth, Murray Bridge, Noarlunga, Port Pirie and Regency Park campuses, and part time for existing workers via recognition of current skills. Concession, subsidised and full-fee rates apply depending on eligibility, and TAFE SA also offers this qualification to international students. Graduates can move into roles such as case worker, community services worker, welfare worker and early intervention worker.
